A Special Doljanchi Party in the Czech Republic A truly special event took place at Numaru – a Doljanchi! If you’re unfamiliar with the term, Doljanchi is a traditional Korean celebration marking a baby’s first birthday.

In Korea, a baby’s first birthday is a big deal because reaching this milestone is considered a blessing. Families come together to throw a party and wish the baby a bright future. Even today, this tradition remains an important way to celebrate a child’s life and health.

At this party, the baby and his parents wore beautiful hanbok (traditional Korean clothing), and people from different countries joined in the celebration. It was wonderful to see Korean traditions come to life right here in the Czech Republic!

The back of the restaurant was decorated with balloons and festive decorations. We also prepared rice cakes and set up a special table for the baby, filled with wishes for his health and happiness. It was our first time organizing such an event, and we had a lot of fun getting creative in the process!

What is the Doljabi?

One of the most memorable moments of the day was the Doljabi ceremony, a time-honored tradition where the baby selects an item from a set of symbolic objects, each representing a possible future path. It was especially amusing to see the parents more nervous than their little one! And guess what? He picked a soccer ball! Looks like he’s destined to grow up healthy and maybe even become a famous soccer player! :)

Following the ceremony, guests enjoyed a specially curated Korean meal. This was our first time hosting a buffet featuring all the classic Korean dishes typically served at celebrations, and it was heartwarming to see everyone enjoying the food and sharing this beautiful tradition together. At Numaru, we love creating meaningful moments that let people experience Korean culture. Hosting this Doljanchi was a privilege, and we look forward to sharing many more special occasions in the future!
